Silicon-Valley The Bay Area’s startup scene is like a well-oiled machine that startups in the east often look up to.

While Hong Kong-based startups have the unique advantage in hardware, logistics, finance and eCommerce, our entrepreneurs can certainly learn a great deal from an established ecosystem like Silicon Valley. As our young tech startup scene turns an estimated five this year, Hong Kong entrepreneurs need to continually educate themselves in order to build a sturdy foundation for the years to come.

Which is why Cyberport will be sending a batch of startups to Silicon Valley from 7 – 13 September in the ‘Hong Kong ICT Delegation to USA’ to facilitate this.

Cyberport Partners with Microsoft Ventures for New Accelerator Program with Seed Fund in Hong Kong


Cyberport, Hong Kong’s ‘creative digital community’ has been drumming up a lot of support for startups in the past while, the latest being a partnership with Microsoft Ventures.

Besides teaming up with a tech giant to give startups an opportunity at global exposure, Cyberport has also announced a complimentary accelerator support programme and is now accepting applications for their seed fund.

We had a chat with Herman Lam, CEO of Cyberport to get his take on the partnership and how it will benefit Hong Kong’s ecosystem.

Gurus Gathered at Cyberport’s Asia Innovation Forum 2014 to Discuss the Future of Hong Kong’s Ecosystem


Cyberport recently hosted the two-day Asia Innovation Forum 2014 (April 23-24) themed “building a more vibrant mobile ecosystem through innovation and collaboration.”

Featuring guru speakers in the IT, entrepreneurship, investment and mobile space, the aim of the forum was to chat about the latest business trends as well as dissect the problems Hong Kong’s ecosystem is currently facing.

Wednesday’s diverse afternoon panel made up of Dominic Chan (project director for CUHK’s Centre for Entrepreneurship), Stephen Ho (chairman of the Communications Association of Hong Kong), Charles Mok (Legislative Councillor, IT at LegCo) and Andrew Pang (chairman of Cyberport’s Startup Alumni Association) tackled issues surrounding Hong Kong’s ecosystem specifically.
