Mobile Startup Snaptee Has Raised US $750,000 to Boost US and Japan Expansion Plans

Custom t-shirt design app Snaptee has raised US $750,000 from a group of Hong Kong and Southeast Asian investors. New to this round include Hong Kong-based seed and early stage venture fund SXE Ventures, investment incubator NEST and Groupon founders Danny Yeung and Joel Neoh.

According to a release, the funds will be used to speed up expansion into the US and Japan and for a product update, which co-founder and CEO Wai Lun Hong said will have an added focus on community interaction. “The new version will facilitate how people discover other designers’ work. Users will have more interaction with each other through commenting, tagging and following,” he said.

Hong Kong Startups Looking for Investment Can Apply Now for ‘Nest Pitch Day’ to Access HK$100 Million Fund


The next ‘NEST Pitch Day’ is coming up on Saturday, 6 September!

The investment incubator, who has invested in local mobile startups such as personalized t-shirt designer Snaptee in the past, runs these pitch events to back disruptive and scalable early-stage startups headquartered in Asia.

According to an interview we did with CEO Simon Squibb earlier this year, NEST follows the American seed accelerator ‘Y Combinator’ model and has invested over HK $30 million into startups in the past. According to Simon, the incubator plans on injecting over HK $100 million into the local startup scene within the next 18-24 months.

Snaptee’s Co-Founder Wai Lun Hong Talks Future Partnerships and Gives Advice to Mobile Startups

Last month, mobile startup Snaptee celebrated reaching 1 million t-shirt designs by announcing an app partnership with Manga Camera. The popular cartoonifying camera app, which reached 1 million downloads within its first week of release, will be Snaptee’s first beta partner.

We had a chat with co-founder (and brand new father) Wai Lun Hong and he talked about his startup’s success and the types of partnerships that Snaptee users can expect in the future.

“In the upcoming year, we want to focus more on partnerships,” said Wai Lun. “One of the things we want to launch is partnerships with game companies, focused on games that have amazing graphics of characters. We want to help them further monetize their artwork”
